Elle's Cover Girl

My girl, Rihanna is a true inspiration to the title of my blog, "Unconventionally Chic". Since her breakthrough in the entertainment business, she has proven that rules are truly meant to be broken. I've watched this girl transform from Barbados sweetheart to a trend-setting songtress. Her style is so pretentious and risqué: my kind of fashion.

Check out July's issue which discusses Ri Ri's childhood, latest album, and new man. The girl has really rebounded from a tragic situation.

Calling All Handbag Enthusiasts

Why, why, why do people create these awesome sites that leave me defenseless and the desire to buy?

I was browsing online when I stumbled upon this cute site called Handbago. It features "all things handbags". Backpacks, duffel bags, fanny packs, or diaper bags; they've got it. It's like your personal index to information on handbags. It is filled with reviews, celebrity sightings, and links to purchase.

I've already discovered new bags I want to buy:

1. Treesje Revealed Satchel-- I love the gold hardware with white quilted detail. Great for the summer!
2. Angel Jackson holster-- I am lusting over this cute accessory. I'd imagined placing my lipgloss and mace in the holster's pockets.
3. Tory Burch yellow fringe clutch-- This clutch speaks volumes and it says: " I want you to buy me".
4. Alexander McQueen Snakeskin clutch-- The shape is amazing! It would go perfect with these calfskin oxfords I've just bought.

So, I would like to give thanks to Handbago for making me realize that I have a huge shopping problem.

Yes, He Took It There

Patrick Mohr is an eccentric designer who'd premiered his first show at the Berlin's Mercedes Benz Fashion Show on July 9th. The concept of his collection-- "Is the rhomboid ragpicker homeless?". If you think the title is interesting, you are definitely going to think the show is of the same caliber. His models had rhombus-shaped bald heads, whiskers for beards, and the exposure of breasts.

What's interesting about Patrick is that he has totally blurred the lines between fashion and art, between conventional and unconventional, between streetwear and avant garde, and between women's and men's fashion.

Look, I am all about wearing clothing that's not pristine or polished. But, looking like a hobo is not desired nor fashionably chic. But, I do like the fact that he took the risk to show a collection that taunts the idea of real fashion. Patrick keep doing what you are doing!

A Letter to Clogs

Dear clogs,

Please go back to where you'd come from! Ughhh...I thought you were filed away in the "Bad Fashion" cabinet. I'd always equated you to grandma's errand shoes or Crocs' natural disaster to comfort. But you've reinvented yourself, and forced me to give you a second chance-- but, I don't want to! I hate that you'd disappeared to only make a transformed comeback.

I shouldn't blame you, though. It's Karl Lagerfeld's fault. He's responsible for putting you on the runway in Spring 2010 to haunt me in my dreams and everywhere I go. He's so sneaky!

Clogs, I really hate that I want you on my feet and temptation is so overbearing. So when I purchase you next week at Miu Miu store, don't expect me to be excited about it. I am going to purchase you with an unwilling spirit.

Bittersweet,

Nachelle
